The Warcraft mobile game is set to release this year

Rumors of a Warcraft mobile game have been circulating since 2017, and it appears that the game will be released in 2022. Blizzard has now revealed that a new Warcraft mobile game will be released this year.

This piece of news should come as no surprise to anyone who follows the development of the Warcraft IP. After all, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick disclosed in 2021 that many mobile games based on the Warcraft IP were already in advanced development at the time. Activision Blizzard revealed to investors during a recent earnings call that a Warcraft mobile game will be released sometime in 2022.

“Blizzard is planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, as well as putting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time,” according to Activision Blizzard’s 2021 Q4 earnings press release.

While the exact form of the Warcraft game has not yet been announced, we can speculate that it will not be a direct adaptation of any of the previous games in the Warcraft IP. It could be something like Diablo Immortal, a scaled-down version of the original Diablo. Alternatively, it may be a spin-off game that is better suited for smartphones, such as a Warcraft-themed Clash of Clans-style game. With MMORPGs gaining traction in the mobile market, it’s possible that Activision Blizzard will bring World of Warcraft to mobile devices. We don’t know yet if the game will be an iOS or an Android release, but if the latter is approved, we’ll almost certainly acquire Warcraft APK files.
